Books on Bikes delivers books to students when they are not in school during the summer. The summer is when we need volunteers and “Celebrity Riders” the most, but we have volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

“Celebrity Riders” ride along with the Books on Bikes team during a summer book delivery night. This is your chance to join our team for a night. You will help deliver books and popsicles to children in Charlottesville. The kids will be so happy to see you, you’ll get the celebrity treatment!

“Bundle up with Books” takes place during Charlottesville City Schools’ winter break. Books on Bikes wants students to continue reading over winter break, and we want to make sure they stay cozy and warm too. We give our students, books, hats, gloves, and scarves and spend the afternoon reading stories and drinking hot cocoa. We accept book donations (holiday books, winter stories, and any other children’s books). We are also collecting warm winter clothing accessories. If you knit or crochet on your own or in a group, we would love to give our students your homemade items. All sizes needed, infant to teen.

Book donations are accepted throughout the year at Clark Elementary School in Charlottesville, VA. Please contact us if you need help delivering or would like us to pick up donations. You can also donate brand new books to Books on Bikes through our Amazon wishlist. Books will be delivered directly to us and given to students during Books on Bikes events and our summer deliveries.

Freezy pop donor: During the summer, along with books, we also bring along freezy pops as a special cool and tasty treat for our Books on Bikes’ kids. They need to choose a book before getting a freezy pop so everyone leaves with both. We give out 100 or more freezy pops every week. Want to donate a box of freezy pops or be our freezy pop sponsor for an entire summer? That would be “cool!”

Social media is a great way to spread the word about Books on Bikes. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter and tell everyone you know about our program. There are other great people out there, just like you, that may want to help us out.
